Job Search Tools: Journal Your Progress
Job Search Tools such as keeping a journal can help you manage the search process and keep things simple.
You've completed a
Polished Resume
that markets your skills, experience and abilities; it "pops"! You've looked over your employment options
and are ready to jump into the job seeking process with both feet.
Keep a Job Search Journal
I've included a Job Search Journal
that you can download and utilize in your job search to help you keep your data organized and simple
to find. This journal will help you track your job search and provide the information you will need
to follow up with your contacts after submitting your resumes and applications.
I find it best to follow up an application or resume on a weekly basis and make notes regarding who
I talked with, if I had an interview, and so on.
Get Organized
You may have filed your application online with a few job search sites and employer websites.
You've probably also answered advertisements in the paper and applied to job leads your contacts
have told you about. After a few weeks that can add up to a lot to keep track of!
Organize your job search now so that you can follow up and track all of your applications, resumes, and
contacts easily.
So, make submitting 10 applications a week as your goal, then follow up on those applications the next week
and submit 10 more applications. Track how many of these applications are getting you interviews.
Following up on the applications and resumes that you have submitted to employers is key to landing the
interview and the job.
As you consistently follow up with employers, it demonstrates that you are
dependable and sincere about wanting the job. It shows that you will go over and above what the other
job seekers are doing. Your persistence will eventually pay off.
