Job Search Cafe Ezine Jan5 2010

No matter what happened last year, this New Year is a clean slate. You can choose new directions; you can choose to remake yourself in any way you want! Sometimes, in our humanness we can focus only on our restrictions, and what we can?t do, rather than all the choices we do have.

Purpose this year to make a change or two in your life that you have wanted to make. Examine your life and cut out needless activities that are zapping your time and energy. Restructure your time to focus clearly on what you want to accomplish and work on it a little every day. At the end of this year you will be glad you did!

Government Jobs are Expanding

Have you considered Government employment? According to a recent NY Times article, the numbers of government jobs are expanding:

"While the private sector has shed 6.9 million jobs since the beginning of the recession, state and local governments have expanded their payrolls and added 110,000 jobs".

While government payroll is expanding in many places, there are also many workers from the baby boomer generation that are eagerly anticipating retirement. When this large group transitions to retirement, there will be additional opportunities for those seeking government employment.

Even if you have to start over in the middle of your career, government employment can offer a stable job with good benefits to help you finish out your working years. Many government jobs offer retirement at 55 or 60 years of age with full medical benefits, based on a minimum number of years of service (10 years or less).
