I am sending this via my automatic mailer while I am on vacation with my husband at my parent's winter
home in sunny Florida. Taking a break is important and we all need to schedule breaks from time to time,
even if it is just setting aside an afternoon for a long walk or going to the library to browse around
for some interesting reading material.
Every family has a heritage of successful tips that they pass on to their children, either knowingly or
unknowingly. In my family, one of the greatest tips that my parents taught me by example was the power of
attitude. Both of my parents have the greatest attitudes of anyone that I know. During the tough times and
the good times, they always made the best of every situation and made life fun. They taught me by example
that my value as a person or an employee was not just my skills or intellect, but my attitude.
With the right attitude we accomplish anything we decide to do. We can affect those around us positively.
With the right attitude, you can walk into an employer interview and project yourself as a person who really
wants to do a good job, is reliable, trustworthy, and someone to be trusted and depended upon. With the right
attitude you can set the interviewer at rest by being prepared to help them uncover all the skills, experiences,
and traits about you that they need to make a good decision for the company. With the right attitude, you can
convince yourself and others that you will be persistant and succeed at whatever you do.
Well, that is my pep talk for this week. Thanks Mom & Dad for teaching me the success that comes from good
attitude. I will talk with you again next week from the snowy north!
Sincerely,

"Attitude is Everything!"

Attitude is more important than the past,
than education, than money, than circumstances,
than what people do or say.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. - W.C. Fields

Registered Nurses
Registered nurses (RNs) constitute the largest healthcare occupation, with 2.6 million jobs. About 60 percent
of RN jobs are in hospitals.
RN's assess patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical
records. They administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled patients. RN's may advise
patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Licensing or registration
is required for this job title.
The three typical educational paths to registered nursing are a bachelor's degree, an associate degree, and
a diploma from an approved nursing program; advanced practice nurses?clinical nurse specialists, nurse
anesthetists, nurse-midwives, and nurse practitioners?need a master?s degree.
Employment of RNs is expected to grow much faster than the average (21% or higher) and, because the
occupation is very large, 581,500 new jobs will result, among the largest number of new jobs for any occupation.
Additionally, hundreds of thousands of job openings will result from the need to replace experienced nurses
who leave the occupation.
The Median wage in 2008 for a Registered Nurse was $30.03/ hour.
"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable,
unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to
step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."

Job Search Success Principle:
Keep On Top of your Applications!
One of the quickest ways to secure employment is to keep on top of the applications you have put in with
different employers. You should check back weekly with each employer and let them know you are still
interested in working for them.
After a few weeks the employer will start to remember your name and when a position comes up will think of
you first. With so many people seeking work, those who make the best effort will get the job.
I have a great example of this from my own life. When I was a new single mom early in my 20's I needed a full
time job and a friend that I had gone to high school with told me about a job opening that would soon be
available in the accounting office of the winery where he worked. I got the name of the hiring manager and
called him every week on the same day at the same time. After about 5 weeks of this I was called in for an
interview and got the job. The hiring manager and I already felt like we knew each other when we finally met
face to face, so it was a more comfortable interview.
