4 Steps to Jump Start Your Career Exploration

1. Download the

Career Exploration Worksheet

Print a copy of it so you can fill in your information as you work through the steps on this page.

2) Explore the occupations that line up with who you are and what interests you.

For a quick list of ideas about what careers you might enjoy, check out Career Compass on the U.S. Department of Labor's Career Voyages website.

On the Career Compass site, first choose your three work related interest areas. Next, the site will generate a list of occupations you might like to do based on your interests.

3) Choose Occupations and Job Titles.

Based on the descriptions you read, you have a list of occupations that you might like to pursue.

Pick 2 Occupations from the List that most interest you. Write those down on your Worksheet.

4) Evaluate your options.

Look at the list of Job Titles; there should be some that interest you more than others. Some will be in demand in your state.

Pick 3 Job Titles from each occupation. Write them down on the Worksheet.

Now that you've completed all 4 steps, you can you can repeat this process until you find a match between your interests, abilities, the wage that you want, and the location you are looking for.

To finish, conduct an Online Job Search for those new Jobs in the location where you want to work.

Happy Job Hunting!
